Commercial fertilizers/herbicides are what keep our huge country fed. There are other solutions, like having farmers leave the borders of their lands near water unfarmed so that the wild area has a chance to filter out pollutants. There are government grants that would help pay the farmers for their "lost land."

No, they're much more efficient than "organic" chemicals and if applied properly are safe. If all agriculture used "organic" farming, we probably couldn't feed the people we do because the yield is so much less. Plus commercial fertilizers have basically no risk or bacterial contamination like e-coli etc.

Improperly applied fertilizers may effect the watershed. However the cost benefit of the ban would be impractical.
