I have a small 10 gallon tank and I have a few tropical fish in it. One of them (I apologize for not knowing the name of it) has had a kinda bloody looking thing pop up on his upper belly. It doesnt seem to bother him as he eats normally and doesnt act any different but Im getting worried because I think that it is getting worse daily. Do you think he will die?

I have treated the water with stress coat and before someone tells me I HAVE NEVER seen the other fish pick on him NOT TO SAY that they havent. they probably did is my guess.

All the fish are pretty small.

Thanks for any advice you may give me.

Peace

Are any of the scales missing? Could it have scratched itself on something in your tank?

Is there any "fuzzy" edge to the red area, or does it look more like an ulcer/wound?

If "fuzzy" see Columnaris and Epistylus in the link below.

I have recently had some fish disease experience. Depending on the type of fish, it could have Ick disease or it may have had an anchor worm on it for awhile. If I were you, I would put the fish in a sick tank so that, if it is Ick or Gaping Gills, the other fish might not get it

First off please remember that stress coat is not a medicine and does nothing to help your fish's condition.

This sounds more like a tumor of some sort however a parasite could also have embeded itself beneath the skin of the fish. Other fish could have picked on the "bump" on him for various reasons, but that would not cause the "bump". Can you see a white item inside the bump? It could be a worm or parasite. however a bacterial infection as well could have caused the tumor. A picture would really help here.

Since bacterial and parasitic treatments differ, you will have to decide which it is before treating.

Feel free to email me and I will try to help further.

I had a goldfish that got what appeared to be sores on it(like what you are describing), but he was 13 years old. He did not last long after that. I wish I could help more. Sorry I just remembered something else. I called a local pet store that sold fish and talked to them and they gave me advice before. Don't try calling a dept. store, they don't have a clue.
