It would be too hard to do that. Not every mom knows when their baby was conceived. It is easier to just go by when they are born.

I like how you notice all the small stuff. I would never think about this. Or a lot of the other questions you ask.

because not everyone know when they were conceived...and they wouldn't have a specific day to mark when you were created. No one would know exactly how old they are. I guess they could just add nine months to the day you were born...but some babies come early or late. And we'd have to know when the baby form a personality and turns from a little egg into a person with a brain, because otherwise you're not really alive yet in my opinion. It makes things a lot simpler to just start at the date you were born

Yes, the first poster is right. I also wonder why it is, when a baby is born 2 months premature (okay, it does happen) and hits 4 months old, why people say the child is 'delayed' because they're not rolling over yet? Theoretically, they shouldn't be rolling over for another 2 months because compared to full term babies...they'd have to be 6 months old before they'd develop 4 month old motor skills.

2 reasons I can think of
#1 It is difficult to know the exact date of conception.
#2 Most people don't want to ADD age to ourselves.

Maybe because it is not a full year and who wants to go their whole life giving their age in years and months? However, Iknow that I was fully human during those 40 weeks.

If we say that the beginning of our lives is conception instead of birth we would have then to celebrate "Conception Day" instead of birthdays. To do so would require us to recall our parents having sex in order to conceive us. That would be unpleasant.

Because birthdays are celebrations of your time on Earth, visible to other humans.

great question!! I guess they don't start counting until you are independent (as far as consumption and digestion, breathing, etc)... you are no longer feeding from your umbilical cord and are more independent in that manner... i have no clue. I'm talking out of my a$s, but I think it's a pretty good guess :-)

Because that time was before birth, hence the term "Birthday"
