Well let's put it this way. First you must literally devote your life to basketball for the next few years of your life. Second, go to college and play until your senior year ( Believe me, all of the greats have done it ).
Finally, practice four out of seven days a week, work out two out of seven days a week, then rest the last day. So basically your weekly schedule would look like this:
Monday- Basketball practice
Tuesday- Basketball Practice
Wednesday- Work out
Thursday- Basketball Practice
Friday- Work out
Saturday- Basketball Practice
Sunday- Rest for Next Week
Good Luck

Finish college first. You don't wanna be like Shaun Livingston. Join basketball camps. Exercise, go to the gym. Play with people much better than you so you learn. Let the old people teach you because they know very much about the game. And I think last year David Stern had an age limit of 21 I think, not sure. Join the varsity of your school be MVP and get discovered. and if I were you (if you're not), I'll take a degree in business so when I retire at age 30+ or 40, I'll still be able to earn money.
BTW, play for the Mavs.

I will be blunt. If you have no coaches pushing you to work X number of hours in the gym you have no hope making it to the NBA despite talent. Even if you do, do not get your hopes high. There are thousands just like you wanting to guy that house and beautiful car but only few are selected.

My advice, talk it over with your coach and work hard. However, try to get a career and and good education because making it into the NBA is almost impossible. Again, ask your coach if you think I am just pulling your leg.

Don't get your hopes up (unless your naturally extremely athletic.) These skills NEED to be developed when you're young (7th Grade) if you really want to get anywhere in your career. Take it from me! If you REALLY want 2 make it 2 the Pros, you'll have to work hard EVERYDAY for at least 5 hours a day, Quit your job and live at your mom's house... and that's just to get in the "D-League!" I'm sorry 2 crush your dreams like this, but it's just the bitter truth.
P.S. If I were you I would stop thinking about what you're going to get with the $$$ and work on ur skillz 4 now
P.S.S. Who knows, Maybe when you get to be 30something, you can have a kid of your own and lock him in your basement and put him through intense training begining when he's in 2nd Grade. LOL! Good Luck!

Limit yourself to one hour a day which is all that's needed to sharpen existing natural skills.
Your DNA has already determined if you will be 7 feet tall or jump 42".
If Steve Kerr had practice 25 times more a day than Michael Jordan..... MJ would still be better.

If your 17 you should already have NBA scouts and at least Major Division I schools looking at you.
If you have yet to get a scolarship offer from Florida or North Carolina or Michigan State.... well then forget the NBA and the car and all that.
Go do well in school, go to college, get a job.

If you really want to, practice as much as possible. The NBA isn't going to be easy to get into. I also suggest joining your schools team, playing in college, etc.
But make sure to have a back up plan. If this doesn't work out, you should have something to fall back on.

All the time!!!!!!
Work on every aspect of your game - not just the ones you need to play your position. Also, if not playing basketball, just work out and be in the best shape possible!!
By the way, thats really sweet of you to buy your mom anything she wants!
