Both my grandfather and father were chiropractors so I have been getting 'adjustments' all my life... they can be very useful for (usually short term) relief from certain types of neck and back pain, and can relieve headaches, but when it comes to the low back, the problem is usually muscular and so adjustments don't really help. It's fun to hear how many times your spine can crack though. Put some ice (no heating pads) on it, and try to relax through the pain. If you still can't stand the pain see an M.D. (orthopedist) and try physical/drug therapy before you consider surgery. I have met many people who regret having their spines operated on.
