I have a 55 gallon with multiple semi agressive fish, I was told everything would be ok with only two rainbow sharks. I have had it running for 2 mos. But one of the sharks tails is white now for the past couple of weeks.

Fish tend to lose color when stressed. Rainbow sharks are territorial and two won't be able to stay in the same tank. My guess that the one with the white tail is being bullied by the other one. These don't get along well with red-tailed sharks either.
