didn't they all used to drive Crown Victoria's. I noticed some city cops drive ford explorers in my town and co. sherriffs are driving chevy malibus.

As a rule cops drive Crown Vics. And yes most departments do have Ford Explorers and these as a rule are used by the supervisors or a specialty unit. Such as accident reconstructionist. The Explorers in my town as well as the neighboring town were purchased using a federal grant. When using a grant it is for a specific cuase or use and as such the grant says what you do or don't get. In this case it said Explorer.

We drove Ford Crown Victorias, staff (detectives and lieutenants) drove Ford Taurus and the ones of us lucky enough to be motor officers like me rode Harley Davidson Road Kings... God I miss that bike since I retired... what a cool ride.
