1) Ionic compounds consist of metals and non-metals. Covalent compounds consist of non-metals Ionic properties solid at room temperature, high melting and boiling points, conduct electricity in molten and aqueous state, dissolve in water only Covalent Properties exist as solid ,liquids or gases, have low melting and boiling points, does not conduct electricity, disslove in organic solvents only 2) A ionic compound. This is because unlike an covalent compound, an ionic compound is a good heat conductor .Hence it gets hot quickly so if you are to touch it, get ready for a nasty burn. 3) An ionic compound has a higher boiling point due to the strong Van Der Waals forces acting between it metal and non-metal particles thus it needs more heat energy to break the forces between it's particles.Hence it needs a high melting /boiling point to break free.
