Of the two economies, the communist, is dictated pricing by the government where as in free market, it is simply a matter of supply and demand.
In the communist, the only ones to gain any amount of wealth and privilege are those in the seat of government. In the free market, the opportunity exists for anyone willing to work toward that end.
Because of the government dictated price controlled economy in the communist system, people tend to take on a defeatist attitude, become lackadaisical and ultimately, apathetic. They lose the will to succeed or fight and become completely reliant on their government for the simplest of needs. In the free market economy, people see opportunity to advance themselves and strive for privilege. And in so doing, advancements in technology, industry and agriculture are the norm. It was once said that communist Russia was not a threat, it was all rust and paint. I think this speaks volumes about it's economy as well as its military. In real life, one economy has flourished and the other has died.
