I am just starting OTCL and have just gotten off the mini-pill. One of the things I didn't like about the mini-pill was that you had to take it around the same time every day for it to be effective. I had my phone alarm set to go off when it was time to take it but the pills weren't always with me or my phone wasn't there to remind me. I missed pills that way and I hate living paranoid that I'm going to get pregnant again. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like a estrogen and progesterone BCP is more forgiving than a pill with just progesterone.

"While both ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN LO and ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN deliver low levels of progestin over the course of your cycle, ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN LO delivers a lower amount of estrogen—25 mcg compared to 35 mcg."

"If you are taking a combined-hormone pill — which contains estrogen and progestin — you are protected against pregnancy as long as you take your pill each day.

If you are taking progestin-only pills, the pill may be less effective if you take it more than three hours earlier or three hours later than usual. "

With any pill it is most effective when you take it around the same time. However, you don't have to be paranoid if you take it a couple of hours earlier or later next day. Anything within four hours is fine.
However, if you have a trouble remembering about the pill, maybe you should consider a patch or a ring? This way you don't have to remember every day. Just changing the brands of the pills won't solve that problem.

You should always take birth control pills at the same time every day, wether its a mini pill, triphasic like OTLO or monophasic like Yaz (and every other brand inbetween). Every pill works for 24 hours so even taking a pill 3 hours late can trigger an early period. Some women's bodies aren't as sensitive to the hormones, and some are. If you do miss a pill, read the packet inside the box it came in. If you are only a few hours late, take it as soon as you remember, then keep taking them like normal. Pills suck in the fact you have to take it everyday, so there are other methods (patch, shot, NuvaRing...) so if the pill isn't working look into those other ones.

they just switched my bc to ortho tri cyclen lo too. i had just been on the mini pill too, but got so many cramps and stomach aches i had to stop using it because it got too unbearable. they say you should pick a time (say 2pm) and make sure to take it within 15 minutes of that time everyday (so anytime between 2-2:15) personally, i reccommend having your phone next to your bed, and have it go off at like, 5am to take it. that way it wakes you up so theres kind of no chance of missing it, unless of course youre a really heavy sleeper and will sleep through your alarm! any way, that is what i did. i used to take it at 5am every morning, and i never had a problem(until they switched me to the mini pill. they stopped making the brand i took). just watch out, some people get reactions because of taking it without having any food in their stomach. and by reactions i just mean like stomach aches and cramps. i hope this helped you! dont forget, you can always contact your doctor if you have annnny questions =)

I take Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and I am always forgetting it! As long as you don't miss one, you should be fine. I asked my GYN and she said you have about a 12-hour window between the time you should have taken it and when it's still okay to take it. For example, I usually take mine at 10pm. I forget, but as long as I take it by 10am the next morning, there's no problem. Hope this helps!

i was told set a time and take it between 2 hours b/4 my set time and 2 hours after. But as long as i take it that day i consider myself good i think it's jus MORE effective if you take it around the same time everyday. And if you're that paranoid about getting pregnant why not use a condom??

in case you have been taking your pills oftentimes for numerous months - which ability on a daily basis, then you certainly are in all possibility superb. An hour or 2 in the previous ought to not void their risk-free practices. i choose to propose taking a minute to ascertain by way of the brochure to ease your concepts. distinctive cases the learning "same time each and daily" are given to assist avert forgotten pills. in case you're up at 7 am each and each morning and know which you consume breakfast as quickly as you're up, then "same time each and daily" can merely mean "with breakfast". once you consume breakfast, it is going to remind you to take the pills.
