slow drivers

Tailgators hands down! You can normally find a way around a slow driver, but someone right behind you with little or no room is never good. I ESPECIALLY HATE THIS when I'm at work, as I can't see directly behind the semi-trailer. If you have to brake suddenly the tailgator normally doesn't have enough time to react... I mean legitimate panic braking instead of "get off my back end" brake checking.

I also don't understand why tailgators slam on their brakes after they pass in a lot of instances... I should add that I drive with either Hazardous Bulk material or heavy loads like shingles which makes this maneuver even more confusing to me!!?!?!

The slow driver is usually only dangerous when a road rager is behind, and the average driver will pass the slow one sooner or later. The tailgater is a much greater danger to every other driver on the road. Slow drivers do not cause anybody to tailgate, but tailgaters are a convenient excuse for them. Let's face it, if you come up behind a slow driver, you have the choice of actions. If you are being tailgated, your choices are limited by the actions of the idiot behind.

Please define slow drivers.

In the area I live if you are running less than 100 MPH over the legal limit, you are a slow driver. That is an exaggeration but less of one than you might think. The head of our state traffic enforcement office was on the radio recently complaining because cars in a particular area that were frequently clocked at 100+ MPH. I just wanted to know if he has any intention of enforcing the law.

I can put my Park Avenue out on the Freeway and set the cruise control right on the speed limit. If I do that I will not pass anything but trucks and then only on an uphill grade. And that is not an exaggeration. I have tested it several times on trips as long as 500 miles.

So I guess that makes me a slow driver. It is sad when obeying the law makes a person the second most hated thing on the highway.

Slow drivers for sure.

Tailgators are very simple to get rid of. Simply move out of the fast lane and let them by. 9 times out of 10 they will pass you.

For those 1 out of 10 that don't pass you, but continue to tailgate, I'd bet 9 out of 10 of those are talking on their cell phones.

So what do you consider tailgating anymore? 10 feet? 20 feet? Should we all maintain 2 seconds between cars, as we were taught in driver's ed? Where I live, there's too much traffic to have everyone spaced out by 2 seconds.

Seriously, the best fix for tailgators is to keep right except to pass.

slow drivers are a pain...and in some instances can cause dangerous conditions...however if you leave for your destination early enough...the slow driver can eventually be over come.

The tailgater....that's another story...this person can make a person nervous and cause them to not be paying attention to what is in front of them. If you are a defensive driver you will notice the tailgater and that person can distract you.

Ok now for a solution...the slow driver...just wait for the opportunity and pass him....the tailgater...I love doing this...it only works in the day time as in the evening your lights are on...however...for the daytime tailgater...simply maintain your speed...reach over and turn on your park lights...to the tailgater it appears as you are hitting the brakes and makes them back off quickly...trust me this works...and it's kind of fun to do...try it you'll get a chuckle out of it.

We have all been slow drivers at one time or another because >we were carrying an extra heavy load, chemicals in open containers, stuff that wasn't tied down well enough, have a hangover, or the car is very sick.
Tailgaters just guaranttee that I get my car fixed for free(for it is ALWAYS the tailgaters fault.....)in the eyes of the insurance companies.

Tailgators for sure! I'm not particularly fond of slow drivers but I can pass them.

slow drivers are worse because they encourage tailgating and also cause speed limit drivers to attempt a pass putting them in the most dangerous position of a possible head on collision.
