Here are my ideas...
What does an actor do? Take information from a script and turn it into a believable (hopefully), real world on stage to entertain, maybe educate and transport the audience. They work through their bodies and voices to try and bring characters out of themselves. What is their role in society? What do they give? Are theater actors still important since it is currently a pretty niche market. They also devise work - it doesnt have to come from a script, what are they aiming to do? How does it differ from tv and film? What qualities do you think they need to have.

where do you live? if you are in LA, go to Samuel French. Also look up Bernadette Peters or the Barrymores (like in Drew's family). There are a lot of books on the origins of acting that may also help. Actors were considered heretics and outcasts for a very long time, by government and church institutions. Look it up; it is all very interesting. Have fun. Oh and talk to your college/high school drama teachers or interview the actors in your school. Their stories and definitions may make for an interesting report.

The actor on stage must recreate his character for every performance, be it for weeks or years. Stars may move on, but supporting actors may be in the same role for a run of years.
There's your start.

I would say look up Adam Pascal. As far as I know, he's done mostly Broadway musicals, he is best known as Rodger from Rent, Radames from AIDA, and the Sewer King. The only thing is that he played Rodger in the move version of Rent, but as far as I know, that is the only film he's been in, so, I don't know if that counts as movie star or not.

Why not read old press releases or reviews of theater productions to search interesting and successful actors, and then interview them.

look up people like idina menzel and anthony rapp...
if you are looking for older stars...look up people like thespis, who was the first actor.
you can also search for broadway shows and then look at the actors. most big shows have websites dedicated to them, shows like Urinetown, Rent, Wicked...those kind of things...
hope that helps
