You typically set the denominator of your function to zero. Any place the denominator of your function is zero will yield a vertical asymptote.

f(x) = n(x)/d(x) where n(x) and d(x) are polynomials with no real zeros in common. If a is a real number such that d(a)=0,then the line x=a is a vertical asymptotes.
