First, there are very few things which I can predict with utter certainty, but one of those items is that there will NEVER be the requisite number of state ratifications of an amendment to repeal the Second Amendment.

Second, remember that we're talking about confiscating firearms, not paper airplanes. I'm confident I'm not the only one who will NEVER give up my guns without a fight.

The Second Amendment is the one which guarantees the rest of the Constitution. Had the Chinese recognized something analogous to the Second Amendment, there never would have been a Tiananmen Square massacre.

nostradamus: Please show me the asterisk in the Second Amendment which allows for waiting periods, background checks, etc...

Are you also in favor of requiring people who publish newspapers to obtain a permit showing that they will act in a prudent manner? If not, why not? Both the owning of a newspaper and the owning of a firearm are guranteed by the Constitution, and shouldn't be hampered.

john doe: who do you suppose will come and get them? The troops, an overwhelming majority of whom are conservatives and agree with me? I want some of what you're smoking.

David: No gun has ever jumped out of its locker, loaded itself, aimed itself, and puilled its own trigger. A gun is a moral neutral. No gun has ever killed anyone. Ever. Not even once.

My right to keep and bear arms is not more important than someone else's right to life. It's worth EXACTLY the same. Both are inalienable rights.

Gun laws are in fact the most useless thing!

You can get a hand gun ILLEGALLY in any major US city in under 10 mintues.

I'm a liberal and I DO NOT support any gun laws or band since they means exactly poop anyways.

If someone wants a gun they will for sure get a gun. End of story.

I just love the title. Get this, if the US govt were to make guns illegal, then all individuals with guns would not be law abiding citizens, they would be criminals, just not yet convicted ones.

ie this is another one of those great misunderstandings that americans seem to get into.

Though, to be fair on the other point, the second amendment is the most misunderstood amendment, the pro gun people say one thing and the anti-gun say the opposite, when the middle of the road is probably the more correct. Even judges are in on the misunderstanding the whole time.

The RKBA protects people to keep arms, as long as their weapons are potentially useful to the militia. That means that a criminal can have the RKBA taken away with due process, but no law can be made to take guns away from the body of the people so as to prevent there being weapons in the event of them being needed by the militia at some point in the future.

The anti-gun people claim that there is only a "right" of the militia to have guns, not so, the "right" is limited because the only reason for the "right" to keep arms is so the militia will never be without guns.
The pro-gun people say that all individuals can have guns and that it "shall not be infringed" not so, criminals can have this "right" suppressed or infringed upon or taken away, depending on how you see this.

The "right" to bear arms is the "right" to fight in the militia, so the feds cannot take away the personel of the militia arbitarily. Again, it can be infringed upon after due process through a court of law.

This does not protect a person to carry and conceal or hunt or any of these things, though they may and often are legal.

However, the pro-gun people say that the protections of bearing arms are for an individual to carry arms as they please, even though modern america disproves this every day.

The problem is that there are two extreme sides and people feel they have to choose one or the other, without choosing the truthful way, and this is why anti-gun people cannot realise one thing and pro gun people can´t understand another.

I find it quite interesting that after all the tough gun restrictions passed at the Federal level in the wake of the Columbine massacre someone who is clearly mentally and emotionally unstable could LEGALLY purchase a gun in the state of Virginia. This means that all of those regulations and restrictions were worthless in preventing the incident at Virginia Tech.

The toughest part is how do we get the guns out of the hands of criminals while not infringing on the rights of law abiding citizens of the United States who wish to own guns.

the worry with liberals is basically that they comprehend lots that's not so. The Liberal ideology is a thought , fostered via a delusional, illogical minority and which holds forth ideals that have not got any foundation truly. Criminals do not pay any interest to rules... If weapons have been ever banned than basically the undesirable men could have them..Criminals choose unarmed sufferers!! Having a gun won't help each and all the time yet being defenseless will in no way help.. whilst seconds count calling 911 and asking the undesirable guy to attend isn't a probable determination. greater suitable to have a gun and not desire it than to desire it and not have it!!! **Police do not defend you from crime, they often basically check out the crime after it occurs.** @

I am sure you believe all the propaganda you are faithfully repeating. Some of us never recover from our first Louis L'amour novel.

Nonetheless, I agree we will never take weapons from law abiding citizens. We shall first make the guns illegal to own, and then those who defy the decision of the majority will not be law abiding.

As someone who worked nights in an ER for twenty years I often wonder why you think your right to be armed is more sacred than another person's right to life.

Rick, when will YOU and your fellow "gun lovers" get hip to the fact that your government has MORE guns and much BIGGER ones than you, and that your little AKs aren't going to mean squat to them should they decide to come get them?

You put up all the fight you want, Kaczynski.

There'll be nothing left but a black spot and some smoke.

am i the only one who is sick of taking the guns from dead people's fingers - all having been killed by gun violence.

sure, you can own a gun, but what i don't understand is why gun rights nuts think that having a background check or a three day waiting period is synonymous with taking away all gun rights.

the killer at virginia tech GOT HIS GUN LEGALLY.

this is not ok...
