Scan with avast and and it would take it off like any other anti-virus program.

The first item to cover is your use of Windows 98 se. This OS is no longer supported by Microsoft so you cannot get any new security updates. Many of the third party vendors are also stopping their support of all Windows earlier than Windows 2000.

Your "baby" is 9 years old. Compared to human years it's like being 80. It is old, rundown and ready to have several feet of earth piled on it.

It is hard to find a consenious as to what type of malware this is. Some say it is a Virus and others say it's a Trojan. One French site (I haven't lived in France for 50 yrs, so my French is very rusty) said it was a Vundo Trojan. Another site (German) associated this malware with several infections in the Smitfraud Trojan family. Then another site said it may be a RootKit.

Here are sites that may help to remove this infection.

Just boot into safe mode by tapping F2 when your computer is starting up then run your anti virus scanner and it should remove it.

Download a copy of Panda (for Windows 98) from www.pandasoftware.com , this is a very good tool to scan your PC in full.
