You don't have to bury the whole potato, just the eye(s). Slice the eye off, leaving about a 2 inch circle of potato around it and plant it about 2 inches deep, with the eye facing up.

You will get so many potato's you won't believe it!

Yes if the eyes are facing upright. Why don`t you just cut the eyes out and plant them face up!!!You should have a good crop. Make sure you bury them about 2 inches deep and water. Have you ever taken a sweet potato and put it half way in a jar with water...I can`t remember what side up but it produces a beautiful house ivy and sometimes it grows so fast you nearly can see it grow up your walls or wherever you decide to put it in your house!

If they are sprouting, then yes. Break the sprouts off and plant. I have also heard that you can put them under some straw and they will grow. I did this last evening. Had some straw--had some potatoes sprouting--so cut the poatoes up with 2-3 eyes on each piece.

It will grow but produce ZERO potatoes in a heavy clay soil. Potaoes like light sandy soil and cool weather, Typical of northern Wisconsin, Michigan and Idaho and even Pa and NY.

Better yet, dont plant it in the ground. Take and cover it with wheat or oats straw or a pile of mulch to a dept of about 8 to 10 inches. Then about end of July dit out your potatoes, you will have about one pail per potato planted this way.

I have sandy soil, and I can do that. I usually cut them up into quarters. Leaving an eye facing up towards the sun. I cover them with soil, or straw. I wait until the leaves die back before I dig for the spuds. I never let the spuds get direct sun. I do it just for fun. Hoyakins, I do this for fun, and not points, I am totally surprised with the questions. They really make me laugh and your are all a bunch of nice people.

Yes. Take potatoes that have gotten shriveled, and cut into pieces with the eyes on each piece. That's where it will grow from.

not the ones fromt the store, trust me, i've tried it last year and nothing! come to find out the ones u buy at the store r sterile, buy the ones at a greenhouse or wherever they sell ones specially for planting. make sure all the cuts have at least one "eye" on it, put it in the soil, water, and if u got the right ones it'll sprout leaves in a few weeks or so! u have to dig ur new ones up when they're ready!

If temp of the soil is 50 degrees or more the potato will most likely grow. Below that it will rot.

most will. Some marketers put something on them so they won't sprout so they can be stored longer. If they have sprouts, definitely. You can cut them up and get several plants from one.
