I purchased my vehicle in September of last year with 62,000 miles. I bought it not from a Honda dealership, but from a private dealership. My car is at 80,000 miles now and the transmission is dying. I am the 4th owner of it, however the 2nd owner had bought it in 01/05 as a Certified Used Vehicle. I understand that they have a 7 year / 100,000 mile warranty, but I was wondering if I inherited that when I purchased it. I really hope so as I don't want to pay for a new tranny.

you are not entitled to any certified used vehicle warranty coverage on that vehicle. The vehicle must be recertified on ownership changes by the dealership and they must pay a new fee to register it as a certified used car. certified used cars can only be sold through Honda dealers. The records for the certification in the Honda service records are in the name of the purchaser. When the vehicle is presented for service at a honda dealer and the name of the customer on Honda's record does not match the owner's name then Honda will not approve the repair. Honda requires an independent vehicle inspection for transmission repairs under the certified used car program and the inspectors check for agreement between vehicle registration and the purchaser information. As you are not the person who paid for the certification you have no entitlement to any coverage under that contract and any claim for repairs under that contract won't make it through Honda's inspection and verification process.

Sorry for the bad news

From what I know, certified cars loose their warranty by the second owner. Meaning, the third time it was sold, the warranty was over. So there is no way that you have warranty on your car now. But, the dealer should of told you if you had warranty on the car though. Good luck with your car man ! I hope you get it fixed. Check the years from the first owner to the second one. That matters a lot too. By the way, private dealerships don't really carry cars with warranty.

if you can post your vin number i'll pull it up through honda's service records. i'd (unfortunately) fathom a guess that you don't. for the most part once the car changes hands from a consumer to a dealer/used car lot, the warranty stops at that time, but i'd be more than willing to look it up for you.
