Our stupid neighbor decided to cut down about 5 pine trees for no reason ( perfectly healthy trees)They ended up falling across our entire backyard & causing massive damage. They even drove a bobcat into our yard to pull them down with, causing even more damage!! What can we do to get the yard back in shape quick & isn't he liable for the damages?

Take photos now. And, hopefully you have some before-the-event photos of the area. He is completely liable for any damages and does not have a right to come on to your property without your permisson. You may want to contact the police/sheriff and get your complaint on record now as well. Then, it will be a relatively simple small claims court case for you to pursue. You should ask for damages to cover all repair of your backyard back to its original shape.

I'm probably going to sound REALLY stupid here, but maybe the trees roots still maintain the ability to respond to this atrocity.

What I mean is, and this considers the fact that the original roots spread to your property, that maybe you could take the root and plant it on your side of the fence for re-plantation.

If I am reading your post correctly, a bobcat was displaced from his/her favorite haunt. This saddens me.

I would certainly follow up on the other suggestions for legal re-compensation with your fence. That is certainly unfair, and at least you have a voice in the legal system (unlike the tree and the bobcat).

Your legal action will begin with the company that cut the trees down. Their responsibility at the very least was to protect your property.

However, this is truly a sad affair on many levels.

Wow i sound so pro-environment, which is very unlike me.

Things are changing too fast.

Make your neighbor know this is unfair.

Sending the BEST karma your way!!!

If you want to take a formal approach, send him a letter with your expectations such as filling in ruts, sodding disturbed areas, etc.

If you think that an informal approach might be more friendly. Simply ask them what their intentions are in fixing your yard. It they seem to have no interest, then do the letter. If they then do nothing. Fix it yourself, keep records of your expenses and give them the bill. If they don't pay, go to small claims court, this is a gimme.
