You'll need something that can handle both types of input. I recommend an LCDTV monitor. Several brands make them. Here's the wiki on them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LCDTV

Many monitors, especially the big ones like a 24", have multiple inputs, often including composite video, S video and even component video.

What they do not usually have is a TV tuner, although some do.

So, if you want to connect to an existing satellite box, cable box, VCR etc then when you go shopping look at the input specifications and make sure that you have one that is compatible with your source.

Otherwise you can buy a monitor with a tuner, buy something that has a tuner such as a VCR DVR etc. or get a tuner card for your PC.

computer monitors input are usually VGA, DVI, S-Video or Composite. Cable TV is usually coaxial cable unless you have HD signal which often goes on HDMI or DVI. So if you have HD TV signal, you can buy a computer monitor for both your computer and TV, otherwise you may have to buy some converter devices to convert your TV signal to display on computer monitor.
