I want to start by saying that I support the idea of not having cellphones for chit chatting..But.>Today there was a Tornado warning at my Son's schools and some of the children were scared and crying. THey got their cellphones out to call their parents during the dock and cover...The teachers got upset and told them that the school law says do not use cellphones on school grounds...Dont you think that children should have the right to call the parents during caothic incidents, just for the heck of feeling more comforted? I mean these kids were crying, and nobody in that school can comfort them like their parents can... I feel that this si wrong and I am a teacher myself, What do you all think?

In emergencys, cell phones should specificlly not be used. If kids are crying the teacher can help of other students. Cell Phones can interfere with radios used by teachers and police as they try to contact each other. This is for your child safety. I think they can hold off on calling until after school.

I think that the teacher should be the one to do the comforting, not mother and fathers over the cell phone.
First I agree with you that cell phones in school are only a distraction. So I would restrict their use and punish any student that abuses that policy. Children can bring the cell phone to class, but they have to keep them on vibrate. This way a parent can contact them in the case of an emergency.
Comforting children is hard to do by the whole classroom, but I think that it is the job of teachers to do just that. The teacher is there, physically, and knows the children. They should be able to keep them calm. This is why schools practice fire drills. In tornado regions they should teach them to get under their desks and even to go to a room with no external walls. They should also be taught to leave the temporary classrooms. The old saying goes “God hates Trailer Parks and he uses tornados to prove his point.” Temporary classrooms are just as flimsy and likely to get damaged. Trying to comfort someone over the phone is not as strong as if the person is there. Then what do you do for the children that don’t have cell phones, or whose parents don’t know there is a tornado watch in effect. Plus once you set the precedent of allowing cell phones to be used in class then where do you draw the line? It is best to just ban them. Finally, imagine the bedlam it would cause if 25 kids were trying to talk on a cell phone all at the same time.

Yeah they should be allowed during chaotic (not caothic?) events. Earlier this year actually, my school lit on fire (it was FUNNY!) but nobody was injured. I mean it was kind of scary and we were allowed to call on our cell phones. I lent mine to a ton of people so they could call for rides. We weren't at our school and without the cell phones our parents wouldn't have known where we were. This was in Michigan though so unless there's some ultra-hardcore cell phone ban in your state then I don't know...But this was a pretty unusual situation so the phones were needed. But I see kids all the time on there phones in school, in study hall, in the halls, and sometimes in class since our teachers are so oblivious. Well good luck with the cell phone!

Cell phones in class should only be allowed in a pack back and never in a hand unless... like you said crazy situations. Parents can be reassured their child is OK and kids can feel better talking to their parents. At my daughters school cell phones must be not seen and not heard. If a teacher catches a kid on the phone usually IM'ng the phone gets confiscated and the parent has to go to the school to get it back.

I think they should be used by students if they are scared in a crazy situation they should be able to call their parents to see if they know any information. I also think that if the children aren't to be on their cell phone in school the teachers shoudn't be either i dont care for what reason they are on them. On some rules at school i think the teachers should have to follow just as the children do.They are there to teach our children

Were I are living, plenty is extraordinary. People are plenty extra mature. They put on plenty of the identical garments, and the meals is higher since you'll be able to move at any place motive you do not need to keep on campus. I discover that alot much less folks get picked on since each person is establishing to mature however even in my center university folks didnt get bullied, you relatively simply talked approximately folks in the back of their again. Alot extra youngsters are having intercourse, however i wouldnt fear approximately that. Lame center university relationship while your peers drive you to preserve fingers is almost always over. Relationships are extra severe. Going to prime university is a tremendous difference however believe me, High School is sooooo a lot higher than Middle School!

the reason for this is that in emergencies if too many people call then the phone towers wont be able to transfer all the calls and none will get through so help will arrive a lot later. i do agree with you though that the kids would get more comforted, but if every kid called, the phone lines would be jammed.

the bad thing about cell phones is that parents are completely naive about the radiation damage the cell phones are causing to their kids.
