Alright. I will get you all the details, so I hope it's the best answer.

Someone left Chicago at 3:04pm

Local time at Port of Boarding (Chicago): 3:04pm
Local time at Port of Arrival (SF): 1:04pm

Since Chicago is two hours ahead and is in the Central Time Zone

The flight arrives in SF at 4:34pm

Local time at Port of Arrival (SF): 4:34pm

Hence the difference between 4:34 - 1:04 would give you 3.5 hours or 3 hours 30 mins.

My thought process: 1. remember you change time zones. 2. Start with 3:04 and find out what time it is in San Francisco at that time. 3. Take the Ending time in San Francisco minus the starting time in Chicago. Answer 3:04 is really 1:04 in San Fran. 4:34 minus 1:04 equals 3 hours and 30 minutes.

Chicago 3:04 pm would be 1:04 pm in San Francisco
If he left Chicago at 3:04pm and arrived at SanFrancisco at 4:34 pm ,it would be 6:34 pm in Chicago. the total trip took
3 1/2 hours.

to make sense if san f is 2 hours earlier then it would have been 104 in San f at the time that the plane left Chicago so the time is 3 hours and 30 minutes the easiest way to figure it is to figure your starting time in San F time zone.

It doesn't matter how far or behind the time for chicago or san fransisco is, the amount of time they were in the plane is what counts. Because, if that was the case, you'd just find the difference of the time then and substitute that with the amount of the trip.
