Most of the Astronauts that I have spoken with prefer a simple diet containing as many different types of beans as possible. many like that 16 Bean Soup which has lots of different kind of beans in it. The compactness and low physical weight of beans is just ideal for space travel also.

Dried Beans are very easy to sprout in space, and this gives the astronauts a reliable source of fresh, nutritious veggies to use in salads and quick meals, or to top off a freeze dried meal package.

With only a little extra effort, bean curd makes a suitable substitute for Ice Cream, and various pies.

So, yes, beans it is for the majority of our Space Travel.

Astronauts can not take regular food it space because i t would just float around in the ship.
Astronauts must bring freeze dried food to eat and packets of liquid to drink
The food packets are trays of food that are seeled ( kind of like TV diners.) They are packaged like this so the food does not float around in the ship.
The drinks they have are little pouches of liquid and they have special straws that prevent liquid from getting out into the ship.
The reason for everythong being in packets is so that nothing floats around, this is because things flying around the ship can be a hazard. It could potentualy hit something and cause the rocket ship to go off track, which is very bad!

Astronauts normally bring dried up food that will not spoil. When you go to the space station for a tour they give you dried ice cream to try. It tastes mostly like normal food but will not need refrigeration and will not spoil for a long long time.

astronauts nowdays eat freeze dried food that they reintroduce water into since water is a by product of the fuel cells. they used to eat vacuum packed cubes of food and before that food in a tube like a toothpaste tube.
