Funny, I think people degrade other people because of envy. That was short and sweet...ENVY on the other hand...
WELL, I think people who are the envious types are insecure. I know people who were raised to be very confident and maybe they are not the smartest or the prettiest, but they don't seem to ever be very envious.
They are not the types to say "why can't I (be, have, go somewhere like) that. If they want things others want, they go out and find a way to achieve them without the added waste of time that envy takes up. They are more likely to say, hey that is cool...and just go get whatever "it" is. It could be education, a better nose, smart handsome husband...whatever...but you don't hear them whining about it first.
I am dealing with an unusually high amount of people like that right now and I am trying to let it affect me...but I am wearing thin...

Degrading is due to several factors intertwined together not one single factor alone. Jealousy is the first, for what ever reason that green eyed monster hides in every single one of us and comes out when one person shows the slightest bit more than what one has. Couple the green-eyed monster with even the slightest bit of insecurity and you are quick to stir the pot, though it has not quite yet boiled. Adding in the need for people to feel superior to one another for whatever the reason and the heat begins to boil. To that add a dash of what society says is acceptable and now it really starts to boil. Throw in the haves and have nots and your pot is going to overflow! So, as with our society the way we have made it, people now see it as acceptable to belittle others. Take away wealth, aristocracy, fame and fortune and it leaves us all the same.

they degrade them cuz it makes them feel better about themselves, or they're jealous of what they have & wish they could have it.
They envy them cuz they either have a physical thing that they want, or they have some kind of emotional stability (or some other feeling around them) that the other person knows they'll never have.

We were born that way it's called Sin, this is Why Jesus had to come to Save us. You don't have to teach a 10 month old baby how to be selfish or angry. But you do have to teach them to share and be patient. Every human being is born that way and God loved us so much that he sacrificed his only Son so that we could be free from Sin.

Because of our sinful nature. Because they think of themselves as better than anyone else. Sometimes we are too full of ourselves. It is a sad reality.

Because they are so insignificant, that it's the only thing they know how to do to make themselves feel important.
