I have Roadrunner and the normal cable box, hooked to TV and a spliter to my tower so I can also watch it on the computer.

My question is.... Can I cancel my normal cable service, get rid of the box, but still tap off the line and take it to my tower to watch at least basic cable? Just getting old paying $110 a month when I do it all on the computer for the most part, like to cut bill in half, remove TV but still watch it on the computer.

Anyone have just Roadrunner and try to see if they can get normal cable TV on the computer? Does it work? I know some old apartments I was able to get free basic cable on the TV from just plugging it in, was thinking same thing with this.

Thanks.

when you call time Warner to downgrade from CATV+RR to RR only, the installer comes to your home and then goes to the main box (called TAP) and physically adds a filter, which only lets the Internet signal to come trough your cable... so, No, you would not be able to see any TV channels. NOW, if you live in a house (not an apartment) AND the the tap is in your backyard, you could go there and remove the filter, but if you get caught, you could be fined $1000 for stealing cable.

I am a Time Warner Customer; they bought out the old company. I personally don't use Road Runner, but for all intents and purposes I am on that system.

I prefer satellite TV so I only get broadband access through the cable. I don't have a cable TV box, and I purchased my own cable modem and router. So you don't need to subscribe to cable TV just to have your broadband access. It would be cheaper if I did, but as I said I prefer my satellite.

Once the signal comes into the house I can do whatever I want with it. I have a router to send the signal to my computer and to send it to my notebook. Recently it was announced that Road Runner was going to let people run a server on their network and sell time on that server to other users. I would check with the company first though.

There is software (I think Yahoo makes it) that allows you to get TV shows across your broadband connection. I haven't installed it, but I know it is out there.

If you have a VCR or a DVD player with a built in tuner then you can feed an air antenna and use the player to tune the signals then send an output to the computer and the monitor. PROVIDED you are receiving a digital signal. Most networks are broadcasting in digital and by Feb 2009 all of them will be doing it.
