Hi. For a better understanding of the probability, try to find a copy of "Intelligent Life in the Universe". Hard to find, my copy eventually fell apart. But a great read. The odds are not good, but they are zero if we do not try.

I don't think so plus if we can't really just talk to them the distances are so big that it would take light a long time to get there so the only way to find them is if they too are searching for life.

No because it's a binary thing. We either make contact or we don't. It's all or nothing and we have no previous data to base anything on.
