1st off let me tell everyone thanks!!! I have loved your ideas and thoughts! Here are our ideas:
For my parents...one my parents were expecting my little brother and then my little sister, my older brother and I were told that they had "killed a rabbit"! Now, we were young so we were upset until they explained what that meant. So, we thought about giving them a stuffed animal rabbit and just let them ponder on that a minute. Or out a granparents bib on it. Not sure yet.
For his parents: his dad is a major cook and we thought about going over for dinner and then I would ask about what was cooking in the oven, perhaps buns. Then I would tell him about our bun in the oven!
Just ideas so far!

Again, I have loved all of your ideas and suggestions! Thank you all so much. My husband and I have decided to go w/our plans b/c they were our ideas and that makes them special! We may tweak his parents a little. His dad also makes cakes for weddings, showers, b-days, special occasions and he has several cake books. We might get one of his cake books and pick out a baby cake and then ask him if he can make that cake in about 9 months or so! That would be great! We also found a rabbit for my family! It's not a stuffed animal, it is made w/real rabbit fur and looks so real! That will be awesome!!
Thanks again everybody! I have enjoyed everyone's help!

Today is Sunday, so if you meant two days ago, I guess I can't help. If you mean next Friday, here's an idea, wait till Christmas. Put in a gift box an ultrasound picture or a photo of a pregnancy stick or something similar, they even have preg tests now that come with a little thing to put it into like a keepsake frame, not sure who makes them right off but it is the square kind with + and - signs rather than lines.

My aunt and uncle did something cool to tell my grandparents that they were going to be grandparents again... haha.

They sent a gift back [ with tissue and a bow and everythin] like a birthday present but inside all there was, was a pacifier.

My grandma didin't get it at first so she thought about it for a minuite and then relized they were having a baby! She said that was very neat and a cool way to say it without just telling her.

That was just a little idea, so hope you find a good idea!!

For my mom, it was around her birthday that we found out, so I gave her a "Happy Birthday Grandma" card. We were at Starbucks. The transition from confused to shocked to happy was a great one! For my dad we were at Dunkin' Donuts. (Yeah, my family has a thing about coffee...) I couldn't come up with anything creative, so I waited for a pause in the conversation and said, "So...how would you feel about being a grandfather?" (My dad's response: "I'm too young to be a grandfather," and my husband's on-his-feet comeback: "How's March?")

My favorite was my in-laws...my MIL is a knitter. I picked her up some pastel colored yarn and a book of baby knitting patterns. We called and asked if we could stop by, since we had "some stuff to drop off." I handed her the bag and just sat back and waited...she got it after a minute or two :D This could be adapted to other crafts...scrapbooking, rubber stamping, crochet, cross-stitch, whatever!

This last time around when we were announcing our second pregnancy I made a shirt for my son that said " I'm going to be a big brother!!!!!" It was cute and everyone loved it. You could always give his parents something to that effect. A hat or picture album that clearly says it all. I always thought it would be kind of fun to get a sonogram picture of the baby, put it into an album with a catchy little heading and give it to my Mom, but I was never able to keep in my news long enough to carry it out!

I did not have time to get through all the answers written for you so I hope this hasn't been suggested a few times already... lol

Buy a simple "Congratulations" card and make pink and blue confetti to put inside it. Make sure you put the card into the envelope open side up so it doesn't settle into the bottom of the envelope. This may take a few minutes for them to catch on but it will give you time to capture their reaction. I think you can buy "baby themed" confetti at a party store, or you can just use cut up copy or construction paper.

I wish you and your husband the best of luck!!

I don't usually answer these questions because there are so many answers. I have to tell this one. I was grocery shopping one day and my daughter called my husband to ask where I was. He told her. Well while shopping, I bent down to get something off a shelf and when I went to put the item in the cart, there was a pregnancy test that read positive. I turned around and there was my daughter with a huge grin on her face. I screamed tears of joy and couldn't' stop hugging her. It has to be one of the best moments in a mom's life. She had my first grandson and I was there to witness the blessed event. It was wonderful. that's how my daughter told me. Just thought I'd share it with you. Congratulations and make it the most memorable moment in your parents lives. They will never forget what you do. God bless. you and your unborn child and may you all have a wonderful life full of joy as I have with my grandchildren.

When I was pregnant with my child, I sent my mom flowers to her work with an invitation to a special event that evening for her nd my dad. I then went out that day and bought a whole bunch of baby stuff and decorated my house and invitied family and firneds of my parents to a 'Grandma and Grandpa' surprise party - they had no idea what was coming. Everything was about celebrating that they would be grandparents and the only stipulation was that it was a shower for THEM, not for me, so we had some pretty creative gifts for them arrive.

Good luck to you!

I'm trying to think of a clever way to tell my parents they are going to be great grandparents. My Mother is turning 86 on Monday and the family is doing the usual meal get together at a restaurant for her. Unfortunately, with age, her memory is slipping a bit (short term memory is not very good) and we also lost my brother (her only son) a little over a year ago. I'm really trying to think of something unique and meaningful for her. I was thinking of getting a birthday card (probably blank inside) and putting baby pictures of her, myself and my daughter taped inside and then in a 4th spot, put a ? mark or the silhouette of a baby in that spot. Thoughts anyone?

I was recently at a post wedding brunch where the newly-married couple announced the pregnancy. (wow, they work quick! lol) They handed out little fortune cookies that said different things like "The only question is, will it be a boy or a girl? or something about "The Stork will visit next fall... " then the "lucky numbers" were the expected due date. It was lots of fun to watch everyone realize what the cookies meant. My husband was like huh? I had to tell him.. lol.
The grandparents were floored too! (And possibly mortified)
