Ok...my hands started going numb (while sleeping)about a year ago. Then eventually going to sleep during repetitive motion such as being on the computer. Now, I'm experiencing throbbing pain in the wrist area of my right hand. Short of surgery, are there some suggestions?

Unfortunately, the diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome is not correct. Numbness in the hand does not confirm the diagnosis. There are many other factors involved and need to be examined prior to any treatment. Far too many surgeries for "carpal tunnel syndrome" have not produced any change in the symptoms. The reason being is that there are 3 other areas that can be the source of the symptoms. Here's the list (no explanation at this point):
1. Extensor wad in the forearm
2. Shoulder/Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS)
3. Cervical nerve root involvement (this is the most common)

Your best bet would be to see a chiropractor who understands this issue (which most do). While it "could" be carpal tunnel syndrome, don't do anything until you rule out the other options. The most effective tool with which to diagnose carpal tunnel is EMG/NCV. This is a test of the peripheral nerves. It allows the doctor to determine exactly where the nerve is interfered with. Any other test is non-conclusive, in and by themselves. Any questions, you can email me at drchrisfoster@comcast.net

Vitamin B6 really helps:

Start by taking 300 mg a day for no more than three months straight, and 50 to 100 mg per day after that.

You can also reduce irritation by wearing a special wrist brace designed for carpal tunnel syndrome; use it during working hours and at night

I got rid of my carpel tunnel by the B6 and also by putting a sports cream on my wrist. I've had great results with this!

I had carbal tunnel in my left hand and I had surgery last year it took away the numbness and pain ,no scare they cut on your life line.I think it was worth it.I also have it on my right hand i only have numbness during the night and when i get up in the morning. If the pain gets bad i'll have that one done.Your out of work for 2-6 weeks .For now use a wrist guard any doctor can get you one if that don't help consider surgery.Good luck.

First and foremost, go see your doctor. He or she may prescribe a sort of wrist guard, bandage that you can wear at night time, and if you'r like, even during the day. If you work on a computer regularely or your job requires your hands all day, your best bet is surgery. Is it because of your job? You might me eligible for WSIB if you're in canada. My mom waited too long and ignored the fact she needed surgery, and now being post-surgery, is going through soooo many complications, all because she waited too long for it. Ree-couperation only takes about 6-8weeks and is well worth it. Remember! You can always make money...but once your hands are damaged...you can't do anything!

go to a chiropractor. They'll give you some streches that you can do.

You really don't want to have to go through surgery.

i had the same problem. I worked for a chiropractor. Problems in your hand aren't only from repeptitive motion, it can also be from problems in your neck that do not allow the proper energy flow to you wrist causing Carpal tunnel.

I have carpel tunnel in both of my hands. I was told that there was no guaranteed. I couldn't take that risk.
I want to a chiropractor who worked on my hands.
I had exercises for my hands that I still do when the carpel tunnel is worse.
One exercise is to put a rubber band in a circle around your fingers and stretch your fingers. Do it several times

He encontrado muchos consejos aquí, ¿igual te sirven? Un saludo.
