what film is this?

I once saw a bit of this film and it was raw! There seemed to be a chase scene inside a subway, I think, and another scene where a girl whose pimp? (perhaps), quickly flings a pillow over her head before shooting her in the face, but that is all I can remember. It was raw, and felt like it was made in the 70s or early 80s. Had a drugsy/pimpy/tough cops/mean/gritty/merciless/shocking style to it.

...your description is just a tad bit vague, but when I repeatedly close my eyes and think back, why, oh why, do I go back to a nasty, raw and gritty little ditty of a crime thriller from 1982, entitled "Vice Squad"?

In the film, the murderous pimp was ruthlessly protrayed by Wings Hauser, and the cops in the film, proved to be almost as ruthless as the pimp/killer, himself.

Susan Hubley starred as a business woman, who reluctantly goes undercover, as coerced by the cops, to drawn out the killer, who brutally killed her sister.

...sounds like the film you might be searching for; Anchor Bay Entertainment released the film on DVD, about a year ago.

Driver was about exactly that...

Great film, didn't get the same hype as Bullitt, and Bruce Dern is a much underrated actor...loved him in Silent Running...sorry I digress...

1978 Driver was about a dogged detective, following his quarry relentlessly, no matter at what cost...

Was not a drugs related film though...

Sharky's Machine 1981 with burt renolds. a I believe senator is smoking some cocaine and hangin with naked chicks ,and is shot in the heart while a pillow is held over his mouth he is then shot in the face and his hookers were killed too.
