It is very normal to have irregular and even light periods during your first year or two of menstruation. Also if you are under a lot of stress or dieting this could change the flow. If you want your period to come on the same day each month you need to get some birth control pills. There is nothing to be worried about in your case unless you get extremely painfull cramping. If you do then see your doctor.

There is considerable variation in menstruation, during the life of each woman and between women. Most women develop their "normal" pattern between the ages of fourteen and sixteen, and continue thereafter to have stable experiences until pregnancy. Menstruation ceases, of course, during pregnancy, and will perhaps be different for a woman after her first pregnancy compared to her experience before she became pregnant. The only rule is that you should have a typical experience for you, for months or years between the onset of "regular" menstruation and your first pregnancy. Any departure you have from your usual pattern is therefore a cause for concern, no matter whether it makes you more or less similar to some other woman or women.

To be maximally paranoid, there are about half a dozen potentially serious or life threatening possible causes for your usual menstruation pattern to suddenly change. In order to rule them out, various clinical tests are required. Tell your
gynecologist about this change as soon as possible. If you do not already have a gynecologist, get one. Always tell your doctor exactly what your body is doing in as precise and factual terms as you can. Often, the only sign of illness is a radical change in otherwise normal bodily functions. The more your doctor knows about what your body is doing, the better he or she can take care of you. Any specific advice you may get from a person who has not been to medical school is worthless - it takes seven years of intensive study to learn enough about human biology, health and disease to accurately interpret symptoms and advise about treatment.

Don't wait. If it is disease, waiting can only make it worse.
