The tensions between the US and Iran go back to the Iran Hostage Crisis of 1980, upon which the United States cut foreign diplomatic relations with Iran.
There was potential for a thawing in relations just before America invaded Afghanistan. Iran does not like the Taliban either, and offered American troops passage and logistic assistance in removing them. However, President Bush refused this assistance, and labelled them part of the Axis of Evil.
President Ahmadinejad has been very influenced by these events, and to demonstrate his strength to his people tries to use "strong" rhetoric and actions. In restarting the nuclear program, Iran is acting within its rights guaranteed by the Nonproliferation Treaty since there has been no proof they are developing nuclear weapons. The Iranians are mad because they believe there is biased treatment to them. Of course, there are other issues, including Iran's support of Hezbollah (an anti-Israeli political organization in Lebanon), and the Shi'ite insurgency in Iraq.

Not long ago, Iran made an unprovoked attack on British sailors in Iraqi waters and held them hostage, forcing them to make TV appearances against their will.
Iran is also providing weapons and personnel to Shiite extremists in Iraq.
Iran has huge oil and natural gas resources; why don't they have a refinery? Why do they insist on nuclear power when they could run on their own petroleum for a hundred years, if they wanted to? The regime is obviously not too interested in peaceful pursuits.
This said, I hope it will not be necessary to go to war with Iran. It may be possible to neutralize their threat by other means.

i'm out of loop on lots of the communique. i did no longer hear the speech or the creation. even if, i do no longer think the president of Iran. in the event that they have nuclear intentions, i do no longer think of he could let us know. And although he apparently prevented the question this time, i've got faith he could elect to work out the State of Israel disappear. He apparently asked human beings to look at what led to the Holocaust of WW2 and 9/11. The terrorists that claimed accountability reported, 9/11 exchange right into a reaction to the U. S. help of Israel. i'm proud that our u . s . has supporteded Israel vigorously because WW2. i think of it is biblically and morally maximum suitable. the encircling Muslim countries ought to take up Palestinians that don't desire to stay as Arab-Israelis. If Jews are allowed to stay peacefully in Iran and the numerous different Muslim-ruled countries, then they must have confidence that Muslims could have the comparable risk-free practices in a Jewish state.

Iran does want a conflict. They supply arms to the terrorists that are killing Americans. They have publicly stated they want to destroy Israel. If allowed to develop nuclear weapons or any other WMD they will not hesitate to use them on us.

They are arming Iraqi insurgents against Americans and the British. That means Iranian weapons are killing Americans. If this year will ever get over and we get a new President who is more diplomatic than Bush and not as trigger happy, then perhaps we can avoid a nuclear war. Bush and Cheney love to fight. They don't ever have to die in the fight because our young soldiers do that, but they love to wage war.

Iran has boldly announced that they want to commit genocide and kill every Jew on the planet. They want to "wipe Israel off the map." They fund and support terrorists all over the world and you are asking what Iran is doing?
And I haven't even scratched the surface of what Iran has done, is doing and plans to do.

The Iranian govt seems to want a war. They have been making threats for a while now. There is an old saying I agree with: "If someone says he's going to kill you, believe him".
