You can't prevent everything, and why do some of you seem to think I should I have to give up my right to own a gun so you can feel better?
I do understand that something bad has happend, and you people are scared. I get that and I do sypathize. However, you guys need to remember, that probably 99% of the million plus gun owners in the USA will never hurt anyone. So why do some people wanna punish us all for the actions of a few pathetic douche bags. It's not fair, I mean owning a gun is one of the rights of every American Citizen. It's constitionally protected, and as far as I'm concerned, it's non-negotianble!
Having said that though, for some types of guns I think you do need a little regulation. I mean this little korean moron shouldn't have even been aloud near a gun!
In my state, you have to get a permit from the sherriff to buy a handgun! They do crimminal background checks, and all sorts of stuff. Then in two weeks, if your elidgable, you get your pistol permit. So I think some of this can be blamed on the state of Virginia for not doing their job right. I mean you don't let some idiot who's been in a mental institusion like this guy was get his hands on a gun, and not expect him to do something stupid with it. It'd be kinda like giving a monkey a live grenade, and then wondering why he blew himself up with it! It's rediculous!
Okay, now here comes the part that nobodys gonna like. I'm sorry, but I need to say it.
You can't save everybody, sometimes **** happens and people die. I don't like to quote our president, but these unfortunate people were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. I do feel for the familys though, may God have them in his holy keeping.

I am continually amazed by the people who say "if you ban guns there will be no gun violence".
Look at England, Australia, Japan.
Law abiding citizens disarmed.
Every criminal who wants a gun is armed.
And now what?
Laws proposed in England (last year) to ban all knives ALL KNIVES over 4". That includes your kitchen knives. Really.
Cameras on street corners.
Gangs attacking people in the street and no one will come to help.
The mayor of a major Japanese city shot, just last week.
People who try to defend themselves arrested.
You cannot prevent violence, unless you take measures to prevent violence. So long as anyone feels violence is an acceptable means to whatever end they think they want, it won't matter what tools you take away from them, there will always be one more, unless you nerf the world. The key, the only key, is education. Teach your children what is and is not acceptable behaviour. You won't need to censor music and games - you'll have instead have educated the audience out of existence.

I believe that with any type of violence, there are a couple of things that are necessary to make change.
There should be more strict gun control obviously, maybe their should be no legal guns out there at all. If Law Enforcement were the only group allowed to have guns, that should solve the problem, but I'm afraid that wouldn't make a difference, because there would just be a black market for guns.
Awareness, and Information is really important, and it should start being taught at a very early age. If all children grew up with the knowledge of the horrendous outcomes of playing with guns, and had parents as good role models, I think that gun violence would go down all around the world.
This is my wish for our world anyway, I don't really know if it work, but it would be a start.

Have TV programing that is non-violent, sell video games that test skill but not kill the people. Report crimes in the media, print and electronic, but do not wallow in the gore.
Teach children self respect and respect for others. Then when a teacher or some other freak disrespects and humiliates them, they'll know they're not at fault. Demand the 50% alloted for mental health in the U.S. be returned and increased. When someone like Cho crosses your path, act. Don't wait for someone else to do it or be afraid of a law suit.

as long as there are weapons not only guns, hands can do a mean job too! and as long as we have religion, and power issues, racist, sexist, anger and I am better than you issues there is going to be violence. Some people are just born that way some bought up that way and others are taught, and others for pay back. as long as human are a live there will be Violence!

you have to start training very young,,while in diapers when someone tells you something you have to do what is right or get your butt busted,
later when you are in high school, it's the same thing,
then when you have a family ,you have to continue with this training,
you have to learn ethics, responsibility , courage , and honesty,
if we start now ,in a couple of generations we will be well on the way to preventing gun violance

I like this Question a lot...well in a "free world" I can get a gun and if i have a gun i can shoot a gun and if i can shoot a gun i can kill someone with a gun.....its not hard so say no more guns, but gun company's like $$$$.........why don't they make it harder to get a gun $..... why dose NY have a law saying you cant talk on your cell phone when driving a car $...... so you have to pay to get a "hands free".......everything is about $....its not because its not safe to drive and talk on your cell....New york did tests to find out if there were less accidents after the law was put into affect. take a guess what they found!!!! EVERYTHING IS ABOUT $$$$...........................................................The USA is going to change soon, but not for the better because of sick people who like to kill people they don't even know and its a sad thing we are all going to see the change.....unless we can get all the sick people out of this country and that's not going to happen.......what can everyone do to help?....start speaking up........BE A @SS HOLE if you need to be....instead of letting the government fix everything for us because that's not working lol

Education, common sense, training...we have enough gun laws...the courts need to strongly enforce the laws we have...background checks including mental instability (Virginia Tech. comes to mind) & look at the cities with the most radical gun laws...Gary, In...Detroit, Mich...Los Angeles, Ca...New York, NY...Are the crime rates down there?

Raise people that have values, and value human life. Raise children with morals. Keep our children out of gangs, off of drugs and educated. I believe that if our children spent more time in church events for the youth and less time on violent video games we would have over half of the problem solved.
