You are on the ball. It was only discovered yesterday. There is also a large Neptune-sized Gliese 581 b planet in this system that was discovered in 2005.

The problem of course is getting there with enough water food and oxygen in a ship that could carry a sustainable colony, A wide variety of skills would be needed and enough variety in their gene pool such that the colonists would avoid the perils of inbreeding that have beset the royal families of Europe for generations

581 c orbits a red dwarf. If you want to know what life might be like there, read "Childhood's End" by Arthur C. Clarke. Somebody stows away on a spacecraft and ends up on a planet with a red sun.

exciting news, isn't it? they're not sure it rotates, so it's possible one side's constantly light, and the other dark, but on the plus side it says the red dwarf star is about 20 times the size of our moon in its appearance from the planet.

here's to hoping only environmentalists will be allowed to go there...

Let's see...120-trillion miles is just over 20 light years. So if we could travel at the speed of light it would take us 20+ years to get there. Naw...guess I'll stick around here.

Not me ... all we know is that's its 5 times more massive than the earth and may be in a temperate area. Other than that it could be a death trap.
