How much does in cost to get basic home inspection on a house that is about 1400 sq ft?

Varies by area, I just paid $350 for one. The guy did nothing.
Don't let the Real Estate pick the inspector.

Less than $300 - the square footage doesn't make much difference since each home has similar equipment and functions needing inspection. Your Realtor will recommend one.
If you're doing it for more than merely satisfying a sales requirement/recommendation, look for someone who's been doing it for at least a year or more. If the first thing they recommend is "window wells", you'll know they just got out of home inspection school.

probably between 130 and 200 dollars. i've had a home inspected three or four times and it was never over 200.
