I have to attend a science competition in Texas and all of my friends who have visited America are telling me not to go because they dislike Indians very much, more than any other group. I have noticed that too in science forums people will not talk to you if you're Indian, but they have no problem with Africans, East-Asians, Arabs. Is this true? If so, why? Please be honest I won't be offended and am not looking for sympathy or being oversensitive I just want to get a sense of the opinion before I come. Thanks

I am Kashmiri (north Indian) and Aryan is actually a Sanskrit term that means noble and my surname is also quite common in this area. India is a big country, not homogeneous in ethnicity or religion.

It varies where you go. I do know of people who don't like Indians because their jobs were outsourced to Indian companies overseas. I have heard people complain about calling Indian call centers and computer technical centers to where the jobs were outsourced to and had problems with service and they think the workers are stupid because there is a problem with language comprehension (from both sides). Personally I don't buy into this but I hear it a lot. American companies made the choice to outsource it's not the fault of the people who get the jobs that they were offered. Indians living in this country may get some of the backlash because of the outsourcing or the belief that an Indian who got a job at an American company fair and square has gotten some sort of Minority advantage.

Generally speaking, racist tendencies will vary from area to area. So, having only experienced southern California and Hawaii in any detail, I am not sure that I have any authority to answer about Texas, but my guess is that this was a bad experience in specific, not a proclivity of Americans in general. If there is a prejudice towards India, the only source I can think of off the top of my head is the cliche "jobs being outsourced to India" rhetoric we are exposed to regularly, particularly in reference to customer-service and call-center type positions. I think there is also a feeling of threat in terms of science and technology, particularly medical, related to this. The United States is becoming more service-industry based and the technology sectors of many Asian countries, not just India are growing. These factors may be playing into the way you've been perceived, or they may be entirely unrelated, but they're the only things I can think of that might be an issue.
If I had to predict a racial group that is the most hated right now, I would have to guess Arabs and Muslims (most Americans are not educated enough to know that there is a difference). Are you Muslim Indian or Hindu Indian? That might affect matters somewhat, or it may be the tendency of many Americans to generalize (we do that a lot unfortunately) and say "dark skin, accent, not African or East Asian, = Muslim=enemy) This makes me sad, but unfortunately I see it happening.
I have no problems with India, I'm traveling to India this summer-Jammu/Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal :)

I don't think so at all. Until recently, I lived in eastern NJ and Indians ran almost all the convenience stores and a lot of the gas stations. I think that most people at least in NJ regard them as intelligent, industrious, honest, hard working people for the most part. Also, it seemed there was an increase in the number of Indian Doctors too. There will always be some people who hate some group for some reason, but from my experience, I didn't find that to be so regarding Indians.

I doubt that is a widespread feeling. Indians have not done anything to be disliked. Maybe some people don't like them because there are so many in high tech fields. You might get envy from the techie-types, but don't mind them. A nerd who can't find a job should be ignored.
But I do have to be honest, I am getting really sick of getting unwanted sales calls from people with Indian accents. I would like to take a plane over there and slap a few people, but no, I don't hate Indians.

No they are not the most hated, actually far from it. You would have to make up atleast 10% of the population to compete for "most hated". And besides, Europeans are the most hated in America, but we are the majority.
You are an Aryan? Check out some of my questions, I have a few on aryans also known as indo-europeans.

I have never heard of that or seen it firsthand so I am guessing your friends unfortunately just had a bad experience. And if you are Indian you sure do have a wierd username.
Edit: I didn't realize that it is a common surname where you are from I am used to that word being associated with something else that isn't exactly pleasant. Sorry If I offended you in any way. I learned something new today. :)

I dont know if that's true or not because I don't know anyone from India. But I can say that when I think of Indian men I think really smart like doctors or scientists and stuff. So it could be that they assume you are a genious and are too jealous to talk to you.
