Well, I'll just say it now, I want to become more of a punk person. I'm always stereotyped as some prep that wears pink all the time, but I'm not. And I don't want to be known as that!
So my problem is, how do I tell my parents? They are very strict, and have something against goth/punk/emo-ness. And I don't want to be "emo", as in cut myself and stuff. I like my life (mostly...) I just want to be more edgy and punk. And yes, my parents hate black. I don't think that helps the least bit. I've been trying to slowly get more darker clothing, band t-shirts, and punk accessories. But I think when I show them my birthday wishlist, they'll freak. :-/

Any help??

P.S. Haha, I just noticed that PUNK and PINK are the same word, except for the U in punk and I in pink. :]

First, tell them you're pregnant. Then tell them you're just kidding and give them the real bad news.

You may point out that many who are held back so strickly rebel in a different manner. If you promise that your dressing is the going be the difference but not you inside. I'm going on an assumption here for you, but let them know your dress code does not mean you will be drinking alcohol or doing drugs (and be honest if you say that!).

Having answered your question, will you tell me what "emo" clothes are? I'm a parent and someday may need to know this!!

Well, if your parents are anything like mine, the only way to pull this one off is by cutting a deal. If you can give them something that they want, you can give something that you want. It can be grades, such as "as long as I am on the honor roll, I can be more punk." Or keeping your room clean to their standards, or helping out with more chores. If you want more freedom, you're going to have to accept more responsibility.

It could just be as simple as funding for your own hobbies. If you want to go and buy these new clothes or accessories, then you'll pick up a job that will fund it. Even if they support your new style, they don't have to pay for it.

If you are going to change your image so that people won't think that you're a prep, I think that you are doing it for the wrong reasons. I think you should just embrace who you are, regardless of what ANYONE thinks.

If you decide that you want to be more edgy, I'm sure that you can find a middle ground between wearing pink all the time and completely changing your image.

you could tell them that you don't want to change who you are, just that you don't want to dress like a certain way anymore.just go slowly with it. don't just go out and buy a ton of stuff in one day and start wearing it. people do the same thing to me at school. everyone except for my friends say thati'm a total prep. i might dress a little preppy, but who cares. it's dumb that eople categorize others. i know a ton of "goth" people who are some of the nicest people i've ever met. so don't worry about it. just explain to your parents that you want to change - they can't hold you back.

Try talking to them again. There are plenty more worse things you could do than change the way you dress. When they see your a happier person for it they wont even notice your new style after a while! Good luck.

Just tell them that you really want to dress like that and try to make them a deal, like you'll do more chores or somethign like that. Also try to tell them that emo ppl are cool and not all about dark things and cutting themselves. Btw If you need a place that sells emo clothes try hot topic and zumies.

well im also trying to become a skater/rocker chick too. you dont have to wear direct black. mix it up a bit, wear black and white or black and pink. Black goes with any color, so you can wear black but also wear the colors that your parents want you to. i kno, my mom is the same way.

just explain to them that u are still the same person inside, even tho u want to dress differently & that just because u might change your style of dress, doesn`t mean your personality is going to change...
