Hi. You can attempt to record an EVP. It's easy to do and inexpensive. I've pasted the details below which I copied from one of my other answers on the topic:
When I heard on a radio show (Coast To Coast AM with Art Bell) about EVPs (Electro Voice Phenomenon) I gave it a try with some pretty scary results.
EVP is when you use an ordinary tape recorder or digital voice recorder and record a session in a place that you feel has some kind of paranormal activity. You turn the recorder on and you can either leave the room, or you may want to ask questions outloud to try to get a response. If you do this, you will want to wait a minute or so after each question before going on to the next because the idea is to allow room for the ghost or entity to respond. You will need to remain quiet so as not to talk over what may be being recorded. The thing about EVP is, you will not hear anything as you are recording. But it's when you play it back and listen very closely that you may hear whispers or voices recorded. If you want some samples of what has been captured using this method, go to ghostpix.com and listen to what they have. It's astounding! This is one way that ANYONE can experiment in their own home without having to have any paranormal training experience or the need for expensive equipment and quite possibly get the most impressive results available to prove a haunting. It is recommended that you always use a brand new tape to record on. It is also recommended that you try many sessions in order to increase your chances of getting a result. For the best information on ghost hunting I recommend Joshua P. Warren's excellent book, How To Hunt Ghosts. He covers EVP as well as many other interesting topics. He is an expert on the paranormal. You may want to visit his website called LEMUR.com.
When I tried EVP in my home, I got whispers on my first two sessions. It made it difficult for me to sleep at night. I'm reluctant to continue EVP recording in my home because when you believe you have captured something it can be quite unsettling.
Good luck, I hope this was somewhat helpful.

EVP is a good way to see if your house is being visited by ghosts. Personally, I believe in ghosts, and the supernatural. Paranormal is such a . . . nasty word to me. I prefer supernatural. Anyway, just remember that often 15% or more of EVPs are of a violent or threatening nature, so be careful, and also remember that some of the voices you may catch may not be the one who's causing trouble. Head to an old battlefield, an abandoned hospital, prison, factory or house, and see what you pick up. You'll be surprised at what you hear sometimes.
I have a twelve year old boy haunting my house. His name is Arthur, and he's actually followed us from one house to another. We picked him up about ten years ago from an old farmhouse we moved into. He's a great kid, and keeps moving or hiding things, then they pop up where they should have been all along, or in the weirdest place. Messes with the dog and cats, too. Haven't caught him on EVP yet, but we keep trying.
If you're going to use a camera, use a digital one, preferably one with a display so you can see the picture right away. Make sure the batteries are charged and/or fresh so they won't run out. Turn all the lights off and leave the flash on. Be careful of dust, pollen, and even furniture in your home. They can give false positives.
Good luck, and I hope that helps.

I had a feeling that something was present in my house, but have had recent confirmation about this.
I have completed a course in paranormal investigations (ghosts, etc) and have started doing evps about 2 months ago.
Even though you don't need training as such I feel, if you think your house has activity you can use evp and other techniques to research this.
I have found that Evps are very good especially when there is alot of energy around. This includes kids playing and situations associated with a normal busy house hold. The energy seems to give power for a spirit/ghost to come through.
We have picked up on a person/child by the name of Steven on a recorder, that has constantly said his name and contributed to conversations that others are having. We have heard the whispers from this person, who we believe is a young boy. The thing that makes us not skeptical about this is because we have recorded when no one is around and had the name whispered to us. And just last weekend when the kids where recording (training ghost investigators) we heard him coming through again. Many would beg to differ. But we had whispers (didn't here them when recording) coming through on a recorder. Strange thing is on the other side of the room (a large rompus room), the same whispers were heard at the same time on another recorder.
So I feel if someone was whispering into one device, the other one about 6 metres away wouldn't pick up the same voices.
Apart from this we have had other strange occurences, but I really feel that in some way it may prove that there is someone else here. Whether this person has been with us for a while (we have always had strange occurances), or it comes with the house, who knows. But we will definitely be following it up.
So to round it all up, I hope this has helped you, but if you don't want to do things yourself, call in someone who is trained in investigations, Look on the web, I am sure you will find someone who is able to help.

If you see a ghost you will know, I did. You can try for EVP turn on a tape recorder and ask questions and give plenty of time for an answer before asking the next question, then listen to the tape to see if you have any answers. always use a fresh new tape.
Always rule out any natural phenomena first. take pictures when you suspect a ghost is around. If you get orbs, make sure they are not dust particles. Dust is everywhere even the the cleanest houses. A ghost orb will be solid in appearance and may cast a shadow, and if moveing it may have a contrail behind it like a comet. If the orbs are transparent or lots and lots of you are loking at dust go to www.ghostweb.com and read their free articles and see the link to their FAQ page below.
You can use an EMF meter if you have one and if not a compass can be used the early ghosthunters used compasses to detect any activety.

Okay, do you actually suspect that it is? Because if you do, it would be helpful for you to say why you think so and then i could say "yes" or "no."
There are many kinds of entities and no two are exactly alike. What you will see and feel will be different depending on what or who is in your house. It is difficult to provide a list of symptoms for you to expect since there is no way to accurately predict the criteria yet.
If you are willing to settle for a good try, here I go:
Something may or may not physically happen. Just because it happens doesn't mean it is a ghost, since weird things happen for no reason all the time. However, if strange occurences are coupled with general bad feelings, strange mental pictures randomly popping up, communication from an entity or anything like that (you get the picture) then you might have a "ghost."
Now, ghosts are no necessarily bad things. You might just ask it to leave and it could say, "Oh, sorry, I didn't realize I was bothering you!" and leave. It ahs happened to me before. More stubbon ones might require you to forcefully demand that they leave, but most will simply be on their way. More likely than not, if they don't leave immediately it is because they want to have a conversation, since not many people can just talk to them.
If you do want to talk, you can address them mentally, sending out thoughts or even complete sentences and then receive them mentally. It will not be you replying to yourself; the ghost should sound different than your normal thoughts.
Hope that helps.
And if the contributor known as Gene has not yet posted, would they please refrain from doing so? No one wants to here that copy-and-paste answer.

No, they already did! pay Gene no heed. That answerer puts "please join us in the current/21st/modern century" at the bottom of all their answers. They are not here to help you, they are here to reassure themselves that they are sane. Something tells me that if Gene is sane, it is close... there is a fine line between sane and Gene.

exciting. No, i don't think of so. i haven't observed something strange or unusual. I did spend distinctive time in this Victorian homestead that replaced into outfitted in 1860 and observed/heard somewhat some strange issues. At evening, each and every so often it gave the impression of the homestead got here alive. We heard what gave the impression of human beings moving bags up and down the stairs. The mattress room door straight away merely opened slowly like somebody replaced into coming in. curiously the those that owned the homestead formerly have been time-commemorated to go away for the time of the evening afraid. i replaced into sitting on the suitable of one of the staircases and that i felt like a cat replaced into jogging at the back of me, close yet not touching. No. the only cat interior the homestead replaced into interior the bathing room somewhat a distance away eating. i'd desire to ascertain him. it would desire to not have been him. he's rapid yet not that rapid. My boyfriend's father theory he enable the cat out yet he did not. He observed the cat a jiffy later. He replaced into like, what cat did I set unfastened? there is basically one cat. not something incredibly scarey occurred. We merely pronounced, properly that replaced into unusual while weird and wonderful issues occurred. I had spent some nights interior the homestead by utilising myself with the cat.

If you refuse to believe in ghosts, there is no ghosts. Houses makes creeking sounds all the time, and more audible during the night cos its quiet. The sounds come from furnitures thats expanding (due to weather) they come from pipes with running water, they come from wooden floors, etc, etc.

Easy. There's no such thing as ghosts, so it's not.
Noisy pipes? Call a plumber. Creaky floors? Call a repairman. Strange lights? Check the neighbors. Other stuff? Check the pets or set up a camera to catch your kids playing pranks on you. Honestly, that's 99% of 'haunted houses' right there.

IT's not because there's no such thing as ghosts. Of course, if you enjoy pretending go for it; it sounds like you have an active imagination already.
