She is newly widowed and only going to be 34. I really want to do something special

Handmade gifts are usually the most thoughtful. LIke a knittied project. Maybe she's been eyeing something you have, give it to her. Fill a basket of trial size lotions, shampoos and wrap them all up with a nice towel...it's like a spa basket. If ur a gardener, give her a pot of ur favorite plant. Or cook a pot of ur favorite receipe and bring it over. Make up coupons to give her that entitles her to one day of no chores and u do them. Or babysitting, future dinner.

Can you just take her for a drive and a picnic somewhere.
The whole idea is just to get her away from it all. Over the years every time I have asked some one who has recently had a loss, "what can I do for you?" the answer has been
"Just get me out of here for a little while"

So, go somewhere and try to escape. If just for a little time.

A nice card and some flowers will do just perfectly. Even a single flower. It is the thought that counts.
