DO NOT USE A C-Clamp to push back rear pistons.

90% of rear pistons on Calipers must be "screwed" back into the cylinder.

There should be some notches on the top of the piston that you can place a tool into to slowly turn the piston back into the caliper. (You can try a pair of pliers, but typically it's very slow and it's just cheaper and safer to purchase the proper tool for the job)

They can rent you the tool from your local auto parts store.

The tool typically looks like:

You align up the pins of the tool with the pins of your caliper and use a ratchet to turn the piston back into the cylinder.

Listen to the guy that told you to screw the piston in. Turn in a clockwise direction. Many times, you can get by with using a pair of needle nosed pliers. Take the needle nose and put them in the 2 notches, and press firmly and turn clockwise at the same time. If you use a "C" clamp, you will end up buying a new caliper.
