Looking for the title of a short story i read in English a few years back.?

The basis of the story was that everyone would be the same, and to do that people would receive impediments. Example: When one person's thoughts became too intelligent they had a loud ringing in their ears. I just don't remember the title. Any ideas?

Correct! "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut. My copy is in a book of short stories called "Welcome to the Monkey House".
