We all know that the Phillies are the baseball team out of Philadelphia, but what exactly is a Philly. Is it saying, we are the Philadelphia Philadelphians? We all know that it is the longest, continuos name in American sports history, but what does it mean? There is the Philly Phanatic, but they are not the Phanatics, they are the Phillies. Thanks, and...Aaron Rowand = Golden Glove '07?

But as I stated, why would it be Philadelphia Philadelphians. I mean, I'm from just outside Philly, but I just do not know. Rowand is money tonight.

the Philadelphia Philadelphians. Phillies for short. Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and the great Jimmy Rollins I wouldn't mind having those guys on my fantasy team.later.

Short for the Philadelphians; also a nickname for Philadelphia itself. Almost no one in the Delaware Valley calls the city anything but "Philly."

Those of us hardheads who have been loyal fans no matter what often just call the baseball team "The Phils."

Edward is right. Its much like the New York "Mets", short for Metropolitans. Aaron Rowand, gold glove? If he can stay healthy, he has a good chance. It will also help if the Phils make the playoffs, too. It seems like players with more exposure tend to garner more votes in the awards voting.
