In Abnormal psychology Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that was not described by the term until 1911 by Bleuler. It is believed to be a disorder of cognitive processing. There are several subtypes of schizophrenia; catatonic, disorganized, paranoid, undifferentiated, and residual. People that exhibit behaviors characteristic of these subtypes and classified in the DSM IV-TR are schizophrenic, yet may be unaware. For example, people in the disorganized subset are wild chaotic and behave erratically. Some people may not be aware that this would classify them as a schizophrenic. Those with major symptoms may fail to process/examine the difference between socially acceptable behavior. Therefore, people that have schizophrenia are not aware of their illness.
