would have done the same thing dont you think? I was in Bayonne, NJ across from the World Trade Center when it got hit. I still live with those images, and everyday for months and months the news was showing that video over and over and over again. And there are so many instances of the news doing the same such thing, so why now, is NBC getting such a bad rap. Any opinions as to what ticked everybody off so bad this time as opposed to any other time.? Im just curious as to everybodys opinion whether it be different than mine or not.

poor NBC ; caved in again; freedom ; constitutional right ; you can't censor news b/c someones feelings can't handle it ; life isn't about butterflies and roses; and hiding our head in the sand can't change the action; everyone wants the government to censor what is being played , said etc; people died for the right to speak, see , hear, and bear arms; it is the reason why people have flocked here ; will set sail in tube and risk life to get here ; everyone on the outside appreciates our freedom but us

Sometimes the bad rap is because they keep trying to impress everybody by focusing on the murderer and also, sometimes their interviews with other people seem as if they are saying, "SOUTH KOREANS are the ones to blame" except it's not like that at all, there are psychotic people in every race. Look at the Amish killings and everything else, all white people. It's just wrong to just focus on the killer instead of those who died. Why are we making the murderer famous (or should I say infamous) instead of recognizing the dead ones that could've been the best of their generation. Also, I do not think that NBC is getting a bad reputation because that's what the news do, they arouse people. Except I really do not like the way they do this. One of the news station questioned one of the guy who lived with the murderer in the same suite and the announcer keeps saying, "wow, if I were you, I would have been suspicious that he wont talk!" But, he does not understand kids these days; they just simply do not care that much about others to keep trying to make a quiet person to talk, we move on. But the announcer kept emphasizing the point that it was his roommates fault or something. This whole massacre is horrible. My high school homeroom teacher is from Virginia Tech and my homeroom is the L-O's so we have many many Koreans including me. Some ignorant low kids sometimes taunt at us, but they cannot bring themselves to think about the vast number of white mass murderers compared to asians or even African Americans for that matter: people stereotypically say that African Americans are harsh, vile, and aggressive, but they are not! There has been absolutely no African American mass murderers. It is just a simply stereotypical statement made by low people who do not think about their race before they make fun of others. I hope this massacre never happened. It is so horrible especially for the parents of these students.

I agree that the other major TV broadcasters would have done the same thing. That doesn't make it a good idea.
I think the images of 9/11 are important for people to see, even though they are upsetting. This was a serious crisis for the nation and a signal about what kind of enemy we are facing.
The Virginia Tech massacre was a national tragedy, but not a national crisis. Seung's video is a paranoid schizophrenic rant. I am glad it was made available so that I could see for myself that this was the case. But I don't think it should have been shown repeatedly on TV. I think people should have to take the initiative to look it up. This kind of event inspires copycats anyway; there is no need to add fuel to this tendency by hyping the killer.

Let's remember that the news media is a "for profit" organization, not a government sponsored program. The more dramatic the news, the more profits. . The same goes for every form of news distribution, whether its TV, the Internet, newspaper, radio, or magazines. If the news media did not turn a profit, there would be no news.

I think the thing that irritates me and others most, is the fact that the media plays right into the hand of people like Cho. He was a nobody that wanted to be somebody. What a better way to get your name and picture posted around the planet than to slaughter 30 innocent people in cold blood. Then to have your psycho ramblings played over and over and over again. And as an added bonus he even gets to torment the families of the victims even though he is dead.

We need to be informed about what is going on around us. But giving platforms to nut cases and terrorists is misuse of the media.

well i personally think that other TV stations would do the same thing. i mean look its been what 4 months since that whole Anna Nichole Smith thing happend and look all the TV stations talk about that. i mean so what its just going to come up later on tv so what. its the same with 9/11. i mean ya i know it was a horrible day TONS AND TONS of people died and ya i feel for them and everything but look some stations still talk about it. stations do this to try and ruin others cause its their compostion. ok also on that 9/11 stuff all the stationskept showing those VIDEOS CONSTANTLY! ya its heartbreak of america we get it. it hurts so keep showing it?? i dont think the V-Tech video should be treated different than 9/11 videos. Kids, babies, and Adults of all ages died in 9/11. and why isnt anyone raisen crap over that but they are over v-tech?

I do. This is really a no brainer except for those who want to control people - a real impossibility unless the person they want to control is locked up in their basement.

Seeing and analyzing Cho's demeanor gives each of us the opportunity to spot similar actions by others around us and check into their recent weapons purchases.

The other stations were showing everything they had their hands on as well. If CBS, ABC, or any of the others had been given the package, they would have surely aired it as well. And they KNOW IT. I agree with you completely.
