Why is it that you is bad at grammar --- lol

Seriously, if you want people to answer your questions, at least have the decency to use proper sentence structure and grammar. Perhaps you should consider doing less dope.

That's a really good question.

Now, I personally don't advocate drug use. Do not mistake my position as coming from some hallucinogenic craze, or I'm typing with one hand between hits on a bong.

My analysis of the whole system of drug laws is fairly straightforward. I ask three questions of our drug policy.

1. Is it working? I think it's pretty obvious to everyone that it isn't. Forty years after the War on Drugs was declared, we still need a DEA, don't we? Does that suggest it's working to you? It doesn't to me. How about the stories of rampant drug use within prisons? If even half of them are true, doesn't it suggest something about our success if the very people who are caught, tried, and incarcerated for drug offenses are still using drugs in prison? Are we catching a significant percentage? As common as it is for employees or applicants to be given drug tests, I think we probably are not. Are the laws stopping anyone? I don't think so. Ask a hundred high school kids that don't use drugs if they'd start if it were legal. I doubt you'll get a 'yes'. It's not the laws that are stopping kids from getting onto drugs. I think it's fairly obvious that the War on Drugs is a failure.

2. Does it cost money? Well, obviously the DEA isn't a volunteer organization, and jails aren't free. It costs money to detect, arrest, try, and incarcerate people.

3. Does it cause harm to have these drug laws? If the laws have any effect at all, it's to raise the prices of drugs, meaning if anyone steals to support a habit, they have to steal more because of the laws. That's harm. Has the DEA ever kicked down the wrong door, even once? That's harm. Has anyone ever gone to jail and had their life ruined over simple possession, without ever having committed a single violent act such as robbery or assault? Yes, they certainly have, and that's harm. Are there gangs of children who make money selling illegal drugs, using the money to buy access to firearms, which they use to shoot rival gangs of children? If that's not harm, the innocent bystanders that get shot is.

So why are these drugs illegal?

Damned if I know.

kevin j - let's start with sentence structure.

Clearly, you are either:
1.
poorly equipped to have a command of the English language;
2.
or, you are of foreign decent and have yet to learn proper English grammar (which, therefor is okay and understandable);
3.
or (and most likely), you are a user of marijuana and/or cocaine and your brain has rotted out to the point where you are slowly becoming incomprehensible.

Personally, I support legalization of marijuana - largely because it is a natural herb and it boggles the mind on how many tax dollars Uncle Sam could reap from the sale of this weed.

As for cocaine, it is a toxic mix of nasty chemicals.
It does serve very useful purposes under close medical supervision but is not healthy when used randomly.

But the answer to your question is this:
to keep dope away from dopes!

They are considered more highly addictive and dangerous by most people, yet the misuse of alcohol kills far far more. Perhaps we should go back to prohibition again.
