2 days ago i was downstairs in my storage unit and there were NO fleas, i go down there today and literally the place seems infested, you could feel and see them jump on your feet, I dont really have the cash for an exterminator, does anyone know of any home remedies, mixed solutions that will work? I have 2 cats that stay upstairs at all times and only an outside cat, but she doesnt seem to have fleas, I use the advantix from the vet on them? is it something with the weather or spring that causes a huge influx of the little pesky things? all serious answers appreciated

I heard that 'multine borax' (not sure i spelled that right) will do the trick. sprinkle it on your carpet and outside your house. (by the way, it is dish detergent) Also, I use 'advantage' on my cat and she has never had one flea. hope this helps

The fleas came into your house by a host. It may have been mice, squirrels, or maybe your cats. Yes, your cats could have brought the fleas in eventhough they are treated. The Advantix, Frontline etc work great but keep in mind the product only works when the fleas or ticks bit the dog or cat. They can always hitch a ride and not feed.
Vaccuum every day thoughly, after vaccuuming take the bag outside and empty into a plastic bag, don not bring the bag full into the house or leave the bag in the house.
The house should be treated professionally for the best and quickest results. The pest control company will use a growth regulator (which will break the life cycle) and a residule product.
The fleas that your are seeing is only 20% of the infestation. the rest of the infestation is in other stages of live, eggs etc.
You will spend almost the same amount, if not more on store brought products then if you hire a pest control company.

The fleas most likely came in on a mouse. The mouse may have died and the fleas abandoned the body. Use a good fogger in just the storage area. Don't wait to long or they will find their way to another available animal.
Do not apply or use any thing else on your cats. Advantix is enough. You will OD them with poison. Set off the fogger in your unit and close the door. Don't go back in for at least 24 hours. These chemicals are toxic to all animals, plants, fish and should not be used around water run off that can get into the drinking water or a nearby body of water.

I had a guinea pig once in college that got fleas all over my apartment, so I just set up a flea fogger and left the house for the day. When I came home I cleaned everything thoroughly and the fleas were gone.

Kim and Aggie recommend fitting a flea collar to your pet (your flea treatment will have the same effect), keeping the animal clean and vacuuming carpets and soft furnishings regularly. You can even put a flea collar inside your vacuum cleaner to kill the fleas when you suck them up!
If that doesn't work, RAID surely make something that will sort the problem out!

Sprinkle food grade (DE) diatomatious earth ( not pool DE) and spray it with TKO Orange oil ( you can buy it on line.) The De is crushed fossils and cuts their exoskeleton and the orange oil melts kills them. You can dust (lightly) the cats coat. Just do not do it too heavy or more than once a month. If you feed you cats 2% (of DE) their volume of feed it will help stop worm caused by fleas before they start. Some pet organic foods have DE in them.

I'd talk to your vet (even if you're cats aren't effected). They often have a variety of anti-flea products and may be able to recommend good methods for protecting your cats at the same time.

Board your cats with your vet for the day and bug bomb your storage unit. Very effective and a fraction of the cost of an exterminator.
Hopefully, you can get rid of thm before they move upstairs.

A little mild dish detergent and water on the cats and another treatment of advantix, the fleas will die without a host to climb on.
