Its complete idiocy, you don't need weapons to stop a war; you need peace talks, I don't want this to turn into a Cold War; theres been so many wars, I'm only a teenager but I dont want to keep looking over my shoulder to make sure I'm safe; I'd like to grow up in a world where there isnt a war for once, who knows; maybe George Bush might die and a good president will take over, if JFK or Lincoln could see this country now; they'd be so ashamed.

That's exactly what it was, a race with the Soviets during the cold war. Much of it was developing newer and more destructive warheads and not destroying the old ones. Also containment as it existed in the cold war. Where nukes could be placed strategically. Who'd be able to land the knockout punch the fastest. For decades nuclear weapons were used as chess pieces in a game of influence and containment in eastern Europe. It is a grossly inflated number. If you look at every other country in the world with nukes it's mostly in the double digits, if not less. Then you look at the US and Russia and it's several thousand apiece.

Governments and world leaders have succeded so well in creating fear. They are the terror-ists.

There are enough nuclear warheads on this planet to wipe out all existence. Just a few will succeed in doing this.

I question the fact, that even if a small nuclear war was to break out between any two nations, the fall out will affect the whole planet.

Will the world leaders have enough funds to build the appropriate hospitals in order to treat the innocent victims of other peoples stupidity? Why do people keep on paying into life insurances, investments for their futures when they will not live to benefit from that.

Or would it be just best to push the button and eradicate all innocent people on this planet.

So let me see if I understand your question correctly. Currently the United States has THOUSANDS of nuclear warheads stationed throughout the country and on various attack vehicles (ships, subs, planes, etc). Some that are over 40-50 years old. And you think that spending money to replace them or refurbish them is a BAD idea??? You're kidding, right???????

nuclear warheads degrade overtime and need to be replaced just like anything else, they get old.

and nukes have kept the world in check...and they are a necesary evil as far as I am concern.

until all nations are peacefull we need nukes to make sure others on the other side of the world think twice about really hurting us.

MAD - Mutually Assured Destruction

Pakistan has the bomb.
Iran has the bomb.
N. Korea has the bomb.
China has the bomb.

We need enough to knock that part of the world into space and they need to know it. Even if they target our nuclear supplies we need enough to back it up. It's basic military strategy.

As much as it pains me to say this, we need them. Today's world is much too dangerous to let our nuclear arsenal waste away. I think it would be some of the better spent money in our military. It's the old ounce of prevention thing.
