I literally cramped during the essay portion. I took the tests in 2001 and 2005, when it was a paper exam. I usually write slowly because I am extremely careful with my penmanship. However, when prepping for the MCAT, my verbal/essay instructor suggested I throw that out the window and focus on writing faster. I did. And my arm cramped. It's analogous to having a charley horse while running a marathon.

As for many people I know, they attest that the verbal section was hardest because it was a lot of dense reading in a short chunk of time. Many people I knew didn't make it to the last reading passage. But for whatever reason, I did just fine and finished with plenty of time to spare.

Bio sci is generally the easiest for folks to do, but the hardest to score really highly. Most pre-meds have a strong background in biology, so they do well on the exam. However, the exam is CURVED.
