The best material to use is lightweight concrete poured over the subfloor. There is a gypsum product called gypcrete, but it is not resistant to moisture; if you have a water leak the "overpour", as it is called, will disintegrate.
There are special design considerations with screeds or overpours on wood joist floors. The floor support system must be engineered to withstand the added weight of the concrete overpour. In the house I built, using lightweight concrete, the overpour accounted for an additional 17 lbs. per square foot, and our structural engineer took this into account when specifying the floor support system, in this case supplied by Trus-Joist.
When using radiant floor heat, using a concrete overpour ensures superior performance of the heating system. The heated water in the floor can be heated to lower temperatures, which means increased efficiency. In fact, the operating temperatures are ideal for using solar roof panels as a supplementary heat source.

I think a screed is like a bull float. A device for leveling concrete when you're laying it. Seems like a lot of work for radiant heating.

Subs do have such charts that give the depth and contours of the bottom and also use inertial navigation systems. I not sure exactly how the inertial system works but I do know they have them and when all else fails you could us the GPS system by extending the antenna shallow enough to get a signal. When that fails you can take star and sun sights with the periscope.

i seen a company using a squeegee.they were using self leveling gypsom it looked real easy this was a 5500 sq ft home.it was put on 1 1/2 " thick it was pumped from a truck.i installed the flooring there.
