If you had someone in your house that was stealing from you or threatening to beat you up/kill you or your family, would you try to protect yourself or would you run?
If you protect yourself, would you stop at no means to disable them, such as taking out there eyes or killing them in order to protect yourself?

I'm thinking that's why I have a .38 Special. I'm not much into the "flight" portion of the "flight or fight" syndrome. I wouldn't try to disable them, that just sets you up to end up hurt. I don't like being hurt.
I actually live in a state which allows you to take someone's life if you feel you're in danger. So, I have no qualms about it.
If they just wanted to rob me, they'd do it when no one was home. If they're breaking in when someone is home, then the intent is for them to do harm.

I don't have a gun and I'm not handy with the self defense if someone broke into my house I would try to get out and call the cops. I pay taxes for that reason might as well get my money's worth. Of course I don't have kids so the worst my running away would do is leave my television at the burglar's mercy. I can handle that though, you can replace a TV.

If, say, someone was breaking into my home and didn't know I was there, I'd get away as quickly as possible and call 911 immediately. Why risk my life if there's no need?
If I was being physically attacked, I'd defend myself until I could safely get away. If that means I have to gouge out someone's eyes, bite, scratch, scream and yell, if I have to boot someone in the groin or do whatever I have to do to render someone unconsious or incapable of following, I'll do it.

No problem.... I'd f(ck them up!!!! First I would sick my three Doberman Pinschers on them and if for some reason that didn't work (which I can't see why it wouldn't) I'd take a ball bat to them or my friend derringer!!!

This house is full of weapons. I wouldn't hesitate to load a gun and blow someone away if it meant protecting myself or my family.

I would get the police involved so it would not get to the point where I'd have to hurt them if they tried to hurt me. If it's MY house then they are OUT. If they attack me, well, it's self defense.

I'd grab the shot gun and say "get out" as I pulled the trigger. Can't say I never said get out.
