We are doing a small production for my church kids and we want something that looks like grass for the ground. It need to be 20' by 20'...but we don't have the budget to buy that big of a piece of astroturf! Can anyone give any ideas for some cheaper alternatives?

Green felt over a rubber non-slip rug backing?

You can get felt or green fabric at wal-mart for a few dollars. Be sure to tack it down to the stage so kids don't slip on it. You can also cut out a little bit of construction paper in the shape of tufts of grass and stand them up randomly to make it appear more "grass like" Hope this helps.

Green indoor-outdoor carpet, the kind that sort of looks like grass....maybe a carpet dealer near you would loan you the stuff....you can't hurt it ...and then he could take it back and sell it a a reduced price...because its been used....once...and lightly....its worth a shot....you never know until you ask....put a blurb in the program that the carpet was donated/loaned by Jones Carpet Store, etc.....Hope your program goes well......
