Because you agreed to the arrangement that you have. Your services of 'X' for compensation of 'X'. They executive who's job it is to make sure there is still a pie to take a slice from tomorrow and to grow that pie so that everyone's slice stays the same size or gets a little bigger, made a different deal. If it bothers you, study management, become a networking fiend and thick-skinned. You may have a chance at a larger slice. But its no one else's responsibility to take care of you, but you.

Perhaps you should sit in your cubicle and stop having irrational thought about how much your CEO is making; or whether or not he actually bathes in coins, sleeps on a bed made of cash, or takes 25.00/hr of your billing rate to pay for the pelt of supermodel pubes to wax his Bently.
They can make that amount and do not care about you or the business. Look at United Airlines, all executive management got bonuses while the stock was dropped and the working people took pay-cuts.
God bless corporate America!!

When asked the executives will consistently say they are giving the working people a fair and decent slice. Most will even believe it in their heart of hearts.
It is all about how you define the imprecise term fair and decent.

Executives will pay themselves as much as they possibly can, as long as the workers, the shareholders, and the general public put up with it.
Likewise, as long as there is sufficient labor pool, willing to work for cheap, then companies have no reason to raise wages.

True to what the guy said above me, plus most of them believe anyone can get the same chance they had. The main reason they earn what they do is because they went after the opportunity, where you and I chose to be where we are today. That's what they believe.

Because you are not getting paid to make strategic decisions that impact all of your jobs.
Nor are you getting paid to be able to forecast how your business is going to do, whether your product will be in demand, whether to produce a new product, more or less of your current product, budgets for each department etc., etc.
Good luck.

supply and demand. There are few qualified to beexecutives, but many are qualified to be working people.
Get an MBA and maybe you'll be qualified to be an executive.

Because they have to make money for the shareholders first (and then feed their own pockets). The "pitiful" worker is the lowest on the money scale.
